The Compassionate way to Heal
What is Zen Shiatsu?
Shiatsu literally means “finger pressure” in Japanese, but during a session practitioners may use palms, elbows, knees and even feet to apply pressure. The addition of Zen adds the act and practice of meditation to the treatment. It is an Oriental Bodywork Therapy based on the principles and ideas derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine, treating the same meridians as acupuncture. Its focus is on the flow of energy(Qi) throughout the body and its internal organs. To acquire a sense or feeling of balance in body, mind and spirit. Zen Shiatsu is about giving support while encouraging natural change. A therapeutic and holistic approach to preventative health care.
What makes Zen Shiatsu different from Massage?
It is traditionally done on a mat, though is also adapted for a massage table, which is how I work. Client wears loose comfortable clothes. No need to disrobe or use of oils. Treatment focuses on moving energy (Qi) through the body along meridians pathways, instead of muscle connective tissue. Start and end session in abdominal area (Hara)
What to Expect in a Session?
In depth interview for understanding of the whole body, mind and spirit. A more gentle smooth flowing touch, changing pressure and stretches. Works on a deeper level and usually produces stronger and more longer lasting effects. By the end of session, you may experience a lift in energy and a feeling of relaxation and wellness. May even feel sleepy.
